JavaScript is required to run this timer — enable it to start, pause, and hear sound alerts.
This finished while this tab wasn't open to notice — we can't alert a closed tab, only report back honestly like this.
Space start/pause R reset F fullscreen
Enable JavaScript to see background-alert options — this timer keeps correct time either way, but notifications and the install prompt both require it.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does it not beep or warn partway through?
- By design. Interim sounds break concentration in an exam room, so this timer stays silent until the end. Invigilators are expected to give time warnings verbally — for example "five minutes remaining" — which is standard practice.
- How do I handle students with extra time (access arrangements)?
- Run a separate timer for each time allowance. Open this page in another tab, set the extended duration (for instance 75 minutes for 25% extra on a 60-minute paper), and use the copy-link button to save each one. Project the standard timer and keep the extended ones on your own screen.
- Can I put it fullscreen on a projector?
- Yes — fullscreen is the primary action here. Tap the fullscreen control to fill the screen with one large number, legible from the back of a room. Browsers require a tap to enter fullscreen, so it cannot happen automatically.
- What if my laptop or the projector goes to sleep?
- The timer keeps correct time internally, but nothing is visible to the room while the display is asleep, and there is no server behind it. Keep the tab open and the screen awake for the full session; when you return, it shows exactly how long ago time ended.
- Does it make a sound at the very end?
- Yes — a single tone plays once when time expires, and only then. Make sure the device volume is up (and on iPhone, the side mute switch is off) if you want the room to hear it.
This timer keeps the exact time even if you switch tabs. If this tab or your browser closes, nothing can alert you at the exact finish time — there's no server behind this, by design. Come back any time and we'll tell you honestly how long ago it ended.
